# Setting Up Your Stock Trading Bot

A tutorial guide on how to quickly and easily set up a StockHero bot

A picture is worth a thousand words. Take a look at our Quick Start image below. A detailed guide is provided after the image.

StockHero allows you to automate trades right from your computer or phone. No coding skills are needed. Trade popular stocks such as Tesla or Apple with bots based on technical indicators 24/7. Sign up with StockHero and get your first bot running in just five simple steps.

StockHero is a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform that offers automated and algorithmic trading features to our users in a user-friendly interface. Unlike many other platforms that require you to send funds to them, StockHero does not. Instead, it trades from your existing brokerage account (e.g. TradeStation.com) using an API (Application Programming Interface) connection.

Check out the [video that explains how StockHero works](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kszyb6e6EJc).

Integration with your brokerage can usually be done in a few clicks in StockHero. As you start your journey of algorithmic trading with StockHero, you will be pleased to know that so many complex features are now distilled into a simple and intuitive User Interface.

{% hint style="info" %}
TIPS: If you are not sure how to configure a bot or just want to get going asap, you can rent one of the strategies from our [Strategy Marketplace](/getting-started/strategy-marketplace).
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
Check out the [Tutorial](https://blog.stockhero.ai/category/how-to/) section in our Blog. Or view some of our tutorial videos in our [Video Gallery](https://www.youtube.com/@TradeHeroes_ai/videos)!
{% endhint %}

### 1. Asset

Start by connecting to a [brokerage](/connecting-brokerage/supported-brokerages) or using a simulated paper trading account. In StockHero, a paper trading brokerage named "Paper" has been created by default. All trades done within the Paper brokerage are risk-free and use fake funds. Once your brokerage account has been connected, a list of available stocks will be available to you for selection.

If you do not see a stock that you would like to trade, send us an email (<admin@stockhero.ai>), and we will add it within a day.

{% hint style="info" %}
TIPS: Many StockHero users prefer to trade on their own online brokerages and simply rely on StockHero as a signal (when to buy and sell) provider. [Read this article](https://blog.stockhero.ai/using-stockhero-for-your-stock-trading-signals/) to find out more. However, integration with any of our [supported brokerages](/connecting-brokerage/supported-brokerages) will offer you automated trading capabilities. You do not have to do anything!

The choice is yours.
{% endhint %}

A Long strategy aims to buy a stock at a low price and sell it at a higher price. It requires your brokerage currency, usually USD, to execute the trade.

StockHero also supports the Short strategy. There are two types of short strategies - the physical short and margin-short. To run a physical short strategy, the bot will sell the underlying stock that you **already** own. For example, if you want to short AAPL, you will need to own AAPL shares in your brokerage account.&#x20;

StockHero also supports margin-short. In the latter's case, the bot will use your funds (e.g. USD) to sell the stock. You do not need to own the stock in order to run the margin-short strategy. Margin-short will usually incur a borrowing cost charged by the brokerage. Please check with your brokerage on the cost.

*Please note that margin-short is only available on selected brokerages and for Premium and Professional subscribers.*

### 2. Trade Parameters

StockHero retrieves your holdings and available currency balance directly from your linked brokerage account. This information is then displayed within the platform, allowing you to allocate funds to your trading bots. In most cases, the bot will operate within the capital limit specified in the *Fund Allocation* setting.

{% content-ref url="/pages/-M5QYTUi84fliUPvQAIP" %}
[Trading Parameters](/bot-settings/trading-parameters)
{% endcontent-ref %}

{% hint style="info" %}
If you do not see your available cash balance, check with your brokerage and make sure your trading capital is made available for trading.
{% endhint %}

### 3. Entry Conditions

StockHero allows different rules for entering and exiting a [Deal](/getting-started/deals).&#x20;

{% hint style="info" %}
A deal consists of a collection of trades. Whenever a bot buys a stock for the first time, a deal will be created. A bot can continue to buy the same stock, depending on the entry conditions. Once the bot's exit conditions are met, it will sell the stock it has bought. This completes the deal.
{% endhint %}

Users may enter with Bollinger Band and exit with EMA or set up multiple 'and' and 'or' rules with multiple indicators.

It takes many years of trading experience to create a strategy that works the majority of the time. Hence, for users new to the world of algorithmic trading, we recommend taking a look at preset bots available in StockHero's Bots Marketplace.

### 4. Exit Conditions

Using a technical indicator for exit conditions is optional. Users may choose to exit positions based on *Take Profit* or *Stop-Loss* parameters. Note that *Take Profit* and *Stop-Loss* are not treated as technical indicators and will take precedence over any indicator-based exit conditions.

### 5. Backtesting

You may now backtest your strategy across different time frames to ensure the strategy is viable. While backtesting can provide insights into a strategy’s past performance, it is important to note that past results do not guarantee future outcomes.

StockHero allows you to backtest various time windows. For example

1D = Last 24 hours

1W = Last 7 days

After you have selected the time window, simply click the Run Backtest button. Users on the **Professional Plan** have access to custom time window selection for more tailored testing.

# Quick Start Bots

A few bots' settings to help users get started with StockHero. Please note that StockHero and company do not guarantee that the bots will perform profitably or according to users' expectations.

{% hint style="info" %}
Please check out our [Quick Start](/) section if you have not already done so.
{% endhint %}

This page showcases some settings that you can configure for your StockHero bots. However, we understand that for some users, they just want to quickly deploy a bot with proven preset strategies. If that is the case, please check out our [Strategy Marketplace](/getting-started/strategy-marketplace).&#x20;

But, if you are determined to configure your own bots, read on.

StockHero bots are categorized according to a user's risk appetite, namely, Low, Medium, Medium High and High risk. The main determinant factors are the bot's trading frequency and the indicators used.

If you use any of the bot's settings stated below, you assume full loss of your capital, regardless of your risk level. Our company does not bear any responsibility for any losses that may arise as a result of you deploying some or all of the bots' settings as shown on this page.

You may want to experiment with different settings in order to find a combination that works for you.

{% hint style="info" %}
Alternatively, you may want to rent one of the strategies from our [Strategy Marketplace](/getting-started/strategy-marketplace). Our Sigma Series strategy is one of the best performing strategies.

# StockHero Version 4

The best automated stock trading bot software! It just got better!

## A New Era of Intelligent Automated Trading

After months of development and rigorous testing, we are thrilled to officially unveil StockHero Version 4, our most significant and ambitious upgrade since launching in August 2022.

Over the years, we’ve evolved through three major versions, guided closely by user feedback and real-world trading needs. Today, Version 4 sets a new benchmark in speed, intelligence, and user experience.

Development for Version 4 began in December 2024 with a bold vision: instead of incremental improvements, we rebuilt StockHero on an entirely new architecture designed to support the next phase of our growth. This milestone release is more than just an upgrade – it unlocks a powerful foundation for advanced trading, intelligent data, faster performance, and state-of-the-art AI capabilities.

> IMPORTANT: All features in Version 4 are currently in beta phase. Please report any issues to our team via email.

Below is a complete overview of what’s new in StockHero Version 4.

#### I. New Architecture – Faster, Smarter, Stronger

Version 4 introduces a fully redesigned architecture delivering dramatic improvements in speed and processing power. In our internal benchmarks, bot processing is now at least 5× faster (depending on the model it can be as fast as 10x), significantly reducing latency and paving the way for sub-minute trading frequencies.

This enhanced framework also powers our new AI-driven strategies. Processing large volumes of market data for AI modeling requires substantial computational resources, and this architecture ensures seamless performance without degradation in signal processing.

Availability: All users

&#x20;

#### II. New AI Strategies – The Pi Model Family

Powered by Version 4’s upgraded infrastructure, we are launching an advanced family of AI strategies called the Pi Models. Conceptualized in January 2025, the Pi strategies underwent months of iteration, fine-tuning and extensive backtesting. After we are satisfied with the proposed models, live-market performance testing began in June 2025.

The Pi models that will be available are:

1\) Pi2 – Conservative

2\) Pi3 – Balanced risk-reward

3\) Pi4 – High-risk, high-volatility strategy (coming soon)

Pi2 and Pi3 will be available at launch, with Pi4 to follow.

A detailed article on the [Pi Models is available here >>](https://blog.stockhero.ai/introducing-the-pi-models-stockheros-next-evolution-in-ai-trading)

Availability: Premium & Professional

&#x20;

#### III. Stock Performance Indicator

This new feature provides a color-coded visual representation of how each stock has historically performed under a given strategy. Users can quickly identify strong performers based on return ranges – a data-driven enhancement to stock selection.

**DISCLAIMER: Past performance does not guarantee future results.**

Availability: Premium & Professional

&#x20;

#### IV. Market Intelligence

Making the right stock selections starts with having the strongest data. Market Intelligence provides users with an expanded suite of metrics designed to help identify stocks with greater resilience during periods of high market volatility.

A key component of Market Intelligence is Intrinsic Intelligence, which analyzes information from over 3,000 data sources. This includes sentiment data derived from a far broader set of inputs than typical sentiment tools, which often rely on fewer than 100 sources.

By aggregating insights from such a wide dataset, Intrinsic Intelligence delivers a more comprehensive and reliable view of a stock’s underlying condition. Intrinsic Intelligence is available only to Professional or Master Annual plan subscribers.

With access to these signals, sentiment trends, and positive underlying attributes, traders can make more informed decisions and better identify stocks with potential upward momentum.

Availability: Premium/Professional Monthly (limited data) & Professional Annual (full data)

&#x20;

#### V. New Sigma Series MAX Strategy

Thanks to the new architecture, we can now support the computational demands of the Sigma Series MAX, a high-frequency variant of our popular Sigma Series strategies.

* Trading Frequency = 1 minute
* Based on the proven Sigma Series model
* Designed for users who prefer high trading activity

Note: This is a high-risk strategy.

Availability: Premium & Professional

&#x20;

#### VI. Dual Market Data Providers

To ensure higher data reliability, StockHero now integrates two independent real-time market data providers. This dual-source system allows our signal engine to cross-verify incoming data and reduce the likelihood of bad data affecting bot performance.

While no system can completely eliminate incorrect data, this investment significantly strengthens overall data reliability.

Availability: All users

&#x20;

#### VII. Newsfeed Integration

Stay informed with real-time news updates for your selected stocks. This new feature helps users remain aware of market-moving events, earnings updates, analyst ratings, and more.

Availability: Premium (up to 15 stocks), Professional (up to 50 stocks), Master (up to 100 stocks)

&#x20;

VIII. New Supertrend Indicator & More Coming Soon

We’re adding a new Supertrend indicator to our growing list of technical tools. Additional indicators will be rolled out in the coming months. Stay tuned!

Availability: Professional

&#x20;

#### IX. Table View for Bots

Manage your bots more efficiently with the new table-view layout, offering:

* A higher fidelity display of bot data
* Bulk actions such as activate/deactivate
* Faster navigation and organization

This enhancement is especially useful for users running multiple bots.

Availability: All users

&#x20;

#### X. WhatsApp Notifications

Users can now opt to receive WhatsApp alerts for trade executions, complementing existing email and SMS notifications for improved visibility and convenience.

Availability: Professional

&#x20;

Thank you for your patience and trust in us. We hope StockHero Version 4 becomes a powerful partner in helping you trade smarter, faster, and with greater confidence.

# Paper Trading

Test Your Strategy Risk-Free

Paper Trading is using a simulated trading account that does not involve any real stocks or money. It is a risk-free way of testing out bots before using them on real markets. Paper trading trades on our Paper exchange. During normal trading hours, our Paper exchange simulates actual market movements and allows the bots to execute trades on it without using real capital.

{% hint style="info" %}
The funds that appear in the Paper wallet are not real funds. They are virtual (fake) funds that are used only to trade in our virtual exchange, the Paper exchange.
{% endhint %}

### How to Add Additional USD to Your Paper Wallet

Paper trading is enabled by default with a starting balance of 10,000 USD (again, this is not real USD). To adjust the virtual funds for trading the Paper exchange in the **Web App**, go to ***Settings ⇢ Paper Wallet.*** To adjust the virtual funds in our m**obile apps**, go to the Portfolio page.

&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/4E4IEn78J9v4kRVdrVYH" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

(in Web App, click on Settings >> Paper Wallet)

Next, click the Add button.

Enter "USD" into the Stock field as shown in the image below:

<figure><img src="/files/iLRlm217Iyj9xx7g3ywz" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Next, enter the amount of USD you would like to add and click the Add button at the top. For this example, we will add US$10,000.

Click the **Confirm** button. Your new USD balance will be updated immediately.

### Resetting Your Paper Trades

You will be able to delete all of your Completed Paper trades by clicking the "Reset" button.&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/o4nPR2fswaFDhdrcUtzK" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Please note that resetting Paper trades cannot be undone.

# Backtesting

Validate Your Strategy

Backtesting is the general method for evaluating a trading strategy and how well it has performed in the past. Backtesting assesses the viability of a trading strategy by evaluating trade signals generated on the current strategy using historical data to produce results, taking them as historical performance if the strategy were deployed in that time frame. It provides some level of confidence to employ it going forward. However, past performance is definitely not a guarantee of future performance.

{% hint style="info" %}
A good backtest result does NOT guarantee good future performance
{% endhint %}

### Time Frame

Backtesting can usually be done in six different time frames: 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year. A longer time frame can weed out market noise over a period of time, while shorter time frames can evaluate current prevailing trends. It is good practice to draw conclusions from backtesting multiple time frames for each bot.

Backtesting can only be done within the selected time frame from the day the bot is created, going backwards in time. StockHero supports custom date and time setting for backtesting for users on our Professional Plan.

# Dashboard

Dashboard keeps track of all your bots, providing a snap shot of all bots' performances as well as their status.&#x20;

# Portfolio

Portfolio gives an overall snapshot of your bots' performance and stock balances across your brokerage accounts. Each brokerage connection is given its own individual portfolio in StockHero. Stock holdings are retrieved from the brokerage periodically. The total equity value is valued in USD.&#x20;

# Bots and Deals

Bots and Deals are central to how StockHero operates. Please read this section.

Trades on StockHero bots are consolidated as Deals. Each Deal contains orders based on the trade signals generated by ***Entry Conditions, Stop loss, Take Profit, Exit Condition and Extra Orders***. Deals will also execute orders in that same order of priority, whichever comes first.&#x20;

### Waiting For Entry

A bot that is **waiting for entry** is running. It is actively monitoring the real-time market data for the stock.

There is nothing to be done at this stage. Users may delete or pause the bot without any issues as no orders have been made.

Once the bot receives the first signal to execute a trade, a Deal will be created. This Deal can be found in the section **Open Deals**. After this, the bot's status will show "I**n Progress.**" The Deal's status will also show "**Deal In Progress.**"

<figure><img src="/files/R7b9jUceQoSmZxNN39Zk" alt=""><figcaption><p>A bot that has started a trade will display "deal in progress"</p></figcaption></figure>

### In Progress

When Entry Conditions are met, the first order and any subsequent orders, if applicable, are executed and a Deal is considered to be in progress at this point in time. The bot will send the trade signal to the connected brokerage, which will automatically execute the trade. Users can see the trade details on the Open Deals page.

### Color Codes For Each State

<figure><img src="/files/y0Ob3tvZSxWHUzQfNp4a" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Liquidate

If a user liquidates a Deal, all positions taken in the same Deal are exited through a market order on the brokerage immediately. This is to ensure orders go through as quickly as possible. As soon as a user liquidates a Deal, the bot will revert to the "**waiting for entry**" state. To stop a bot from running, the user must turn off (deactivate) the bot.

### Turning off a Bot

An Open Deal is paused when a Bot is set to the inactive state. In a paused state, a bot will not act on any trade signals generated. All trade signals will resume once a Bot's status is set to active again. The Bot will start a new order based on the next trade signal. If a Deal is already opened when a user deactivates a bot, that same Deal will remain as it is, i.e., all stocks bought or sold by the bot will remain intact. If the Bot has already executed a Base Order, it will resume with an Extra Order next, if applicable.

# Bots Processing Priority

StockHero is a cloud-based stock trading bot platform. This means that at any given time, we are running thousands of processes (the bots) for all our users. In order to ensure an optimal user experience through a responsive trade execution system, we have prioritized the processing of the bots into the following tiers:

#### Live Brokerages

Premium and Professional Users: Very High

Lite Users: Moderate

#### StockHero Internal Paper Brokerage

Premium and Professional Users: High

Lite Users: Low

### What It Mean?

If a bot is allocated under the Very High Priority queue, the trade execution is almost instantaneous (barring unforeseen circumstances like network congestion, server downtime, etc.). For users on our Lite plan and trying our Paper exchange, the priority is set to the lowest. This will mean that at times, the bot may miss a trade entry even though the trigger condition is met. For live brokerages, our processing priority is set to be as optimal as possible for users on our Premium and Professional plans.

# Strategy Marketplace

Run Proven Strategies Out-of-the-Box

StockHero's Strategy Marketplace is a revolutionary marketplace that aims to make it very easy for users new to the world of automated trading and/or StockHero to immediately setup high-performing stock trading bots. These strategies were created by experienced traders.

The user experience was a key driver in our entire design and development process. At every step of the way, we want to ensure that the process of selecting an automated stock trading strategy is just a matter of a few clicks.

The Strategy Marketplace is open to only Premium and Professional users. Users on the Lite plan will not be able to rent strategies from the Strategy Marketplace.

{% hint style="info" %}
Please note that a strategy is not a bot. A bot is created based on a strategy's prebuilt model.&#x20;
{% endhint %}

### Renting A Strategy

Only users subscribed to our Premium and Professional plans can rent the Marketplace strategies. The Marketplace strategy that has been rented is known as a **strategy template**.

A user can opt to pay for the strategy template on a monthly, quarterly, or yearly payment schedule. If a user defaults on a payment, all bots created from the strategy template will become inactive immediately.

Backtesting will not be offered for a strategy template. This is to prevent reverse-engineering of the strategy template's settings.

You can also configure a Marketplace strategy to&#x20;

* auto-close position at end of trading day; and/or
* trade extended hours (only on selected brokerages)

> Please read the section on how to [Deploy a Marketplace Bot](/getting-started/deploying-a-marketplace-bot)

### Difference between "Performance On Listing" and "Live Trading Performance"

Every strategy will consist of two sets of performance data. The first set refers to the **Performance On Listing**. This dataset captures the performance of the bot (which is running the strategy) at the point in time when the bot's author submits the strategy to the StockHero team for consideration for inclusion in the Strategy Marketplace. The Performance value determines the absolute return of the bot from the time it was created till the time the bot was submitted to the Marketplace for listing consideration.&#x20;

For example, if Peter creates Bot X on January 1 and it achieves a 20% return after two months (turning US$100 into US$120 by February 28), the system will record and display this 20% return as the bot’s Performance value in the Strategy Marketplace. The APY value will always be higher than the Performance value. Please note that our team may adjust the APY downward to better manage users’ expectations.

The second dataset, "Live Trading Performance," represents the current performance of all StockHero users who have employed this strategy since its debut. This second dataset would be more definitive simply because the data sampling size is significantly larger (a single user who created the strategy versus a huge number of users who utilize it).

Under **Live Trading Performance**, two time-period options are available. "All Time" shows performance of this strategy since the strategy was listed in the Strategy Marketplace. "Last 3 Months" aggregates the performance of this strategy for all users for the last three months. The **Last 3 Months** data is useful for indicating how the strategy performs over a distinctive market trajectory based on most recent memory. For example, during the August and September 2024 market correction, a user checking out the strategy's performance can look at the **Last 3 Months** performance data to see how this strategy has performed.

### Frequently Asked Questions

<details>

<summary>If I rented a strategy, can I configure it to run on any brokerage account? And for any stocks?</summary>

Yes, you can.

</details>

<details>

<summary>I have created the bot using a Marketplace strategy, but it is not doing anything.</summary>

You need to be patient as the entry window is dependent on the various entry conditions set. If you are a new user, please read our main [FAQ](/faq/frequently-asked-questions) that addresses this.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Why am I not able to view or edit the Entry and Exit conditions from the strategy template?</summary>

The "secret sauce" for the bot consists of a combination of numbers from an infinite number of combinations. Experienced traders who have years or decades of trading experience know what settings work well. In order to protect this knowledge, we have deliberately hidden the bot's settings.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Is there a refund if I decide to cancel the rental?</summary>

No. All payments made are final. You may want to try out a strategy for a month before committing to an annual rental.

</details>

<details>

<summary>I have rented a strategy. If the strategy owner updates the settings, will it affect my rented bot?</summary>

No, it will not. There is no guarantee that the bot's performance will improve after the update. In fact, it may even deteriorate the performance of the original bot.

</details>

### Terms and Conditions

All users who rent or offer their bots on the Bots Marketplace must read and agree to the [Bots Marketplace Terms and Conditions](https://stockhero.ai/bots-marketplace_terms/).

# Minimum Funding Requirements

Most strategies in the Marketplace require a minimum level of trading capital to operate effectively. Many strategies also use only a portion of the total Fund Allocation when opening new positions. This is intentional and serves as a risk-management measure, an important aspect of algorithmic trading.

In the **Minimum Funding** column, you will see a value expressed with a multiplier (e.g., **“5×”**). This indicates that the strategy needs at least **five times the stock’s current price** as its minimum required capital.

For example, if a stock is priced at $100, the strategy would require a minimum allocation of $500 (calculated as 5 x $100 = $500). We suggest adding a **20% buffer** to accommodate normal price movements. The **Optimal Allocation** value shown already includes this buffer.

<table><thead><tr><th width="272.2421875">Strategy</th><th>Minimum Funding</th><th>Optimal Allocation</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>All Sigma Series (except MAX)</td><td>5 x</td><td>6 x</td></tr><tr><td>Sigma Series MAX</td><td>7 x</td><td>8 x</td></tr><tr><td>Ultra Scalp</td><td>5 x</td><td>6 x</td></tr><tr><td>Ultra Scalp MAX</td><td>10 x </td><td>10 x</td></tr><tr><td>Market Neutral</td><td>7 x</td><td>7 x</td></tr><tr><td>Market Neutral Aggressive</td><td>6 x </td><td>6 x</td></tr><tr><td>Gamma MAX</td><td>4 x</td><td>4 x</td></tr><tr><td>Swing Strategy</td><td>10 x</td><td>10 x</td></tr><tr><td>Gamma Scalp 100</td><td>1 x</td><td>1 x</td></tr><tr><td>Fishing Rod</td><td>5 x</td><td>5 x</td></tr><tr><td>Agentic AI Pi2 and Pi3</td><td>5x</td><td>6x</td></tr></tbody></table>

**IMPORTANT: We may adjust the Minimum Funding and Optimal Allocation values at any time.**

# Stock Performance Indicator

A data-backed way for stock selection. Available for paid Lite, Premium and Professional subscribers.

***IMPORTANT: Please read Disclaimer section stated below***

With the launch of Version 4, StockHero introduces the Stock Performance Indicator, giving users an immediate visual representation of each stock’s performance within its respective Marketplace strategy. Exact APY values are intentionally omitted, as they are subject to ongoing changes.

The Stock Performance Indicator is displayed in each of the strategy's details page.

<table><thead><tr><th width="149.875">Color</th><th>Performance</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><img src="/files/dPm1eRYbpXpdI0R113WS" alt="" data-size="original"></td><td>Highest APY</td></tr><tr><td><img src="/files/RQZpIAKUKiOl2kLXlzMn" alt=""></td><td></td></tr><tr><td><img src="/files/ax5WzLfUsIapXTpRT0EA" alt=""></td><td></td></tr><tr><td><img src="/files/rP4i4fFFrPAdxB72wS3a" alt=""></td><td></td></tr><tr><td><img src="/files/flUq4hjgbWf3nm0KJFsJ" alt=""></td><td></td></tr><tr><td><img src="/files/qLhGE2DNeJdreQOQSBjZ" alt=""></td><td>Lowest APY</td></tr></tbody></table>

**The percentage value besides the symbol represents the weekly volatility. The higher the value, the greater the volatility.**

### What is a Volatility Index?

A **volatility index** for a stock is a measure of **how much the stock's price fluctuates over time**. It does not tell you whether the stock will go up or down. It simply tells you how "wild" or "calm" the price movements are.

Imagine two stocks:

* **Stock A** moves between **$90 and $100** every day.
* **Stock B** moves between **$80 and $110** every day.

Even if both stocks end the year with the same return, **Stock B is much more volatile** because its price swings are much larger. The greater the volatility, the greater the chances a trade will occur.

A higher volatility means:

* Larger daily price swings
* Greater potential gains
* Greater potential losses
* Potentially more trades

A volatility indicator could help users quickly understand how risky a stock is before deploying a bot.

# Intelligent Stock Selection

Data, data, data... all about data!

***IMPORTANT: Please read Disclaimer section stated below***

Selecting the right stock is one of the most important decisions a trader makes, and StockHero Version 4 introduces two powerful tools designed to make this process more informed, data-driven, and intuitive: the **Stock Performance Indicator, Top 50 Leaderboard** and **Market Intelligence**. When used together, they give traders a comprehensive view of both a stock’s historical behavior and its broader market positioning, helping users make smarter choices with greater confidence.

#### Using the Stock Performance Indicator

The [Stock Performance Indicator](/getting-started/stock-performance-indicator) visualizes how well a stock has performed historically when traded under specific Marketplace strategies. Each stock is represented along a performance band ranging from bright green to grey, signaling stronger to weaker historical outcomes. This gives users a quick, at-a-glance understanding of which stocks have historically aligned well with various automated strategies.

While historical performance is never a guarantee of future results, the [Stock Performance Indicator ](#using-the-stock-performance-indicator)helps users narrow down their initial shortlist. For example, if a stock consistently appears in the higher performance band across several strategies, it may indicate that the stock’s past volatility, liquidity, and price behavior worked favorably with systematic trading models. This early filtering step saves time and guides traders toward stocks with historically stable or advantageous patterns.

#### Top 50 Best Performing Bots

The **Top 50 Performing Stock Trading Bots** leaderboard helps you discover which combinations of trading strategies and stocks have delivered the highest historical returns on StockHero. Ranked by **Annual Percentage Yield (APY)**, the leaderboard showcases the top 50 bots currently being run by StockHero users in live market conditions. It serves as a valuable research tool for traders who are unsure which strategy to deploy on a particular stock, allowing them to learn from successful strategy-and-stock combinations used by the StockHero community.

Each leaderboard entry represents a unique strategy and stock combination. Because multiple users may deploy the same strategy on the same stock, you may occasionally see two or more closely ranked bots with similar configurations. The leaderboard is refreshed **weekly** to reflect the latest historical performance, enabling you to monitor changing market trends and identify new high-performing opportunities.

The leaderboard is intended for educational and informational purposes only and should not be interpreted as investment advice or a recommendation to trade any particular stock or strategy. **Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results.** Always conduct your own research and consider your financial objectives and risk tolerance before deploying any trading strategy.

#### A Closer Look with Market Intelligence

Market Intelligence offers users the following data points - Shareholdings, Ratings, Updates and Metrics.

Understanding a company’s **top shareholder composition** provides valuable insight into who holds meaningful control and influence over the business. When a company’s major shareholders include long-term institutional investors - such as pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, or reputable asset managers - it often signals confidence in the company’s fundamentals. These institutions typically invest only after extensive due diligence and tend to hold their positions for longer periods, contributing to overall price stability. In contrast, companies dominated by short-term or speculative holders may experience more abrupt price swings.

The **shareholding structure** also reflects how ownership is distributed between insiders, institutions, and public retail investors. A healthy balance can be a sign of strong governance and aligned interests. For example, moderate insider ownership suggests that management has skin in the game, while significant institutional ownership adds oversight and reduces the likelihood of erratic price movements. On the other hand, if ownership is highly concentrated among a few parties, the stock may be more vulnerable to sudden moves if any of those major holders decide to reduce or exit their positions.

By analyzing these ownership dynamics, traders can better evaluate the **stability and risk profile** of a stock before deploying a strategy. Companies with well-distributed ownership and reputable long-term shareholders tend to be less volatile, making them more suitable for strategies that rely on steady performance, such as StockHero’s Sigma Series Alpha or Pi2/Pi3 models. In contrast, stocks with fragmented or speculative shareholder bases may require more cautious consideration due to their potential for sharp, unpredictable price changes.

Reviewing analysts’ target prices and ratings is equally important during the stock-selection process. These assessments offer a professional perspective on whether a stock is currently trading below or above its projected value, highlighting potential upside or downside based on expert evaluations. Understanding this gap helps users gauge whether a stock may be undervalued, overextended, or aligned with its long-term outlook.

The Metrics section highlights key financial indicators that help assess a company’s overall financial strength. Users can review figures such as Total Cash versus Total Debt to understand the company’s leverage, while metrics like the P/E ratio and earnings growth offer insight into valuation and future growth potential. By gaining a clear understanding of these metrics, users can make more informed decisions and maintain confidence in their investment, even during periods of heightened market volatility.

Staying updated with the latest news is just as critical. Real-time news flow provides immediate insight into a company’s developments, risks, and catalysts - factors that can directly influence price movements. By keeping up with timely updates, users can make more informed decisions and adjust their bot portfolios proactively in response to market-moving events.

#### Diving deeper with Intrinsic Intelligence

Once a user identifies a stock (or set of stocks) with promising performance signals and fundamentals, the next step is to evaluate its broader market outlook - and this is where **Intrinsic Intelligence** comes in. The feature aggregates insights from **more than 3,000 data sources** to present key metrics such as Sentiment, Fear Index, Fundamentals, Trust, and Innovation. These indicators paint a multi-dimensional picture of how the market views a company across behavioral, financial, and perception-based factors.

For example, a stock with strong sentiment and low fear scores may indicate increasing market confidence, while high innovation and trust metrics could suggest long-term resilience. Conversely, weak fundamentals paired with rising fear levels may be early warning signs. While these metrics do not represent the “true” state of a company, they offer valuable context that helps users understand underlying trends and external pressures influencing a stock.

One of the features available in Intrinsic Intelligence is the **Media Buzz**. The **Media Buzz** chart shows how often a company is mentioned across social media over time, giving users a quick view of rising or falling public attention. When displayed in a chronological chart, sudden spikes in Media Buzz may signal that something significant has happened - such as earnings announcements, new product launches, or unexpected controversies. By comparing these spikes with the **Sentiment** metric, users can better judge whether the attention is **bullish or bearish**. For example, if Media Buzz increases while Sentiment trends positive, it may indicate growing optimism and potential upward momentum. Conversely, if Media Buzz rises while Sentiment turns negative, it may reflect concerns, fear, or negative developments that could pressure the stock downward. Together, Media Buzz and Sentiment provide a more complete picture of the stock's real-time reaction, helping traders make more informed decisions.

#### Bringing it all together

By combining both tools, traders can make decisions backed by historical alignment **and** real-time market signals. The Stock Performance Indicator helps identify candidates that have performed well under certain trading models, while Market Intelligence provides a deeper examination of the forces shaping the stock’s current and future potential.

# Deploying A Marketplace Bot

Please use our Web App for optimal experience. Our Web App can be accessed using any web browser. Web App URL: https\://app.stockhero.ai

### I. Accessing your Strategies

Click on the "My Strategies" menu option on the left menu.

<figure><img src="/files/QajprhvZTZFEafiSJtCv" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### II. Select the Brokerage

Next, at the top of the page, make sure you select the brokerage that you want the bot to trade in.&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/cbLgmlPTNGiDxb8ZeDUT" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

For this example, let's assume that you want the bot to trade in your TradeStation brokerage cash account, simply click the **TradeStation (Cash)** option. You can also create a bot to run in our Paper (virtual) exchange.

### II. Click the Settings button

Your rented strategies will be listed on the next page. Click the Settings button (the vertical row of dots) and click the "**Create from this renta**l" option to create a new bot from this strategy.&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/T6PUoTrPzHid9LD6Jq2d" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

A Create New Bot window will appear.

### III. Set the Stock to Trade and the Fund Allocation

Begin by selecting the stock to be traded and defining the capital allocation for the bot. Next, assign a name to the bot. For clarity and effective management, it is recommended to use a naming convention that reflects both the stock being traded and the strategy applied.

See the image  below.

<figure><img src="/files/9VPIHhOghvtmWwZcJ4kV" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The ***Brokerage*** field specifies the brokerage through which the bot will execute trades. After entering a trading symbol, a dropdown menu will appear displaying all matching stock or ETF symbols. Select the desired symbol from the list to confirm your choice. Once completed, click the **Next** button to proceed to the ***Trade Parameters*** page.

The Trade Parameters page consists of three main sections, namely a) Fund Allocation b) Order Types and c) Settings

### Fund Allocation

This section allows you to allocate the funds that the bot will use for trading. The bot will not exceed the amount allocated. For long strategies (buying low and selling high), the allocation is specified in the selected native currency, typically USD. For short strategies (physical shorting), the allocation is expressed in shares rather than currency. For example, if you are shorting AAPL, the allocation will be denominated in AAPL shares instead of USD.

See image below showing Fund Allocation in quantity of AAPL shares when the strategy is short.

<figure><img src="/files/FbnnVNatJWX0PKLD7veG" alt="Stock trading strategy implementing short strategy"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

StockHero also supports [margin-short](/bot-settings/strategies#borrowed-short-or-margin-short) (where USD is used to execute a short strategy). Margin-short is only supported in TradeStation.

For most of us, long strategy is usually the preferred strategy. Hence, just enter the amount of USD for the bot to trade.

### Order Types

StockHero supports both ***Market*** and ***Limit*** order types for trade entries and exits. For most strategies, it is recommended to use *Market* orders, as they provide faster and more reliable execution. *Limit* orders may be appropriate in specific cases, such as:

\
a) when trading large amounts (typically in the tens of thousands per order) to minimize price slippage,&#x20;

or<br>

b) when the Take Profit target is very small (e.g., less than 20 basis points or 0.20%), where precise execution is critical to the strategy’s success.

### Settings

Enabling the ***Auto-Close Open Positions at End of Trading Day*** option will force the bot to liquidate all positions opened during the day. When this setting is active, liquidation will occur within the final five minutes of standard market hours, typically between 3:55 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

{% hint style="info" %}
We strongly recommend that you do **NOT** enable the option "Auto-close position at end of trading day" unless you are a professional day trader (in other words, it is your day time job).
{% endhint %}

Enabling the ***Trade Extended Hours*** option allows the bot to continue trading beyond standard market hours, up to the close of extended hours at 8:00 p.m (eastern time). It also permits trading during pre-market hours. The start time of pre-market trading depends on the specific pre-market hours supported by the brokerage used.

### Create The Bot

After the fund allocation is set, just click the **Create Bot** button.

That's it! The bot will start to monitor this stock during trading hours and execute trades whenever the entry and exit conditions are met.

# SMS/WhatsApp Notifications

Available for Professional subscribers

StockHero offers SMS and WhatsApp notifications whenever trades occur. To enable the notifications, please go to the Settings >> Notifications page. At present, only the following countries are supported:

* United States
* United Kingdom
* Japan
* Singapore
* Canada
* Australia

We will add more countries based on users' requests. If your country is not listed above, please send an email to our team and we will do our best to support it.

# Futures Trading

StockHero supports the trading of futures contracts. This feature is only available through selected brokerages supported by StockHero (please refer to the list below).

To trade futures, users must be aware of the funding requirements, which are categorized into two types:

1. **Intra-Day**
2. **Overnight**

By default, the "Overnight" funding requirement is applied. This allows bots to hold futures positions over multiple days.&#x20;

{% hint style="info" %}
Please note that futures trading is considered very high risk. Please seek professional advice before trading futures. Only certain Marketplace strategies are suitable for trading futures. Please contact the StockHero team for the list of strategies.
{% endhint %}

Typically, the overnight funding requirement is higher than the intra-day requirement. As a result, some traders may prefer intra-day trading. To enable a bot to use only the intra-day funding requirement, users must activate the **"Auto-close position at end of trading day"** option on the bot’s **Trade Parameters** page.

Please refer to the list below for the specific funding requirements of each supported brokerage.

### Additional Risk Management in Futures Trading

StockHero offers the option to limit the total number of contracts that the bot can buy through the option "Max No. of Contracts". This safeguard ensures that your trading strategy does not exceed your desired position size. Let us illustrate with an example.

Max No. of Contracts = 3

Time T: Bot opens a position and buys 2 contracts.

T+1: Bot buys again with 3 additional contracts (for a total of 5). However, before sending the order to the brokerage, the bot will check against the Max No. of Contracts value and determine that only 1 additional contract can be purchased. Bot sends an order to the brokerage for only 1 contract, instead of 3.

Leave 0 or blank for this option in order to disable it.

# Strategies

Know your tools to be an effective trader

StockHero allows users to trade in both bull and bear markets with long and short strategies. A bot can be configured to trade either the long or short strategy. To trade both directions with the same settings another bot must be used. Advanced traders can implement the long-short strategy by using StockHero's [Strategy Designer](/bot-settings/strategy-designer).

### What is a Long strategy

A Long strategy aims to generate a profit by buying a stock at a low price and selling it at a higher price.

![](/files/-M64CYy-trbzL-Wn_yqT)

### What is a Short strategy?

A Short strategy aims to sell a stock first, in anticipation that the price will drop in the future. A profit is made when you buy back the same stock at a lower price.

![](/files/-M64CadJ7zKWmHtxkc0F)

### Borrowed-Short (or Margin-Short)

StockHero allows you to do margin-short as well. This means that you can sell (short) a stock without having to physically own it. The ability to short a stock depends on your broker's list of stocks that you can short. In order to execute a "margin-short" strategy, you need to connect StockHero to an exchange with the "**(Margin)**" text appended to it in the Brokerage API screen. See the image below:

<figure><img src="/files/DlsvUBkISB1OTDwbrFhp" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Differences between a physical-short and a margin-short

<table><thead><tr><th width="318">Features</th><th>Physical Short</th><th>Margin Short</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Need to own the underlying stock</td><td>Yes</td><td>No</td></tr><tr><td>Fund Allocation Metric</td><td>Number of shares</td><td>USD (No. of shares for certain brokerages. Please check the currency symbol displayed in the Fund Allocation textbox)</td></tr><tr><td>Brokerage account type</td><td>Cash</td><td>Margin</td></tr></tbody></table>

TradeStation (Margin) allows you to execute margin-short while TradeStation (Cash) does not. You can add both brokerages if you would like to run margin-short strategy as well.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you run a Short strategy on a (**Cash**) based brokerage, you will need to own the actual stock in order to execute your Short strategy.
{% endhint %}

# Trading Parameters

### Fund Allocation

The total funds set aside for the bot to execute its orders. The maximum amount of funds that is allowed to be used by the bot. There are two main types of orders - STATIC and DYNAMIC.&#x20;

For the STATIC order type, each new deal will always use the Fund Allocation value.

For a DYNAMIC order type, each new deal will use the proceeds (realized profit or loss) from the last deal for the new deal's Fund Allocation.

If the bot makes a profit with Dynamic order type, profits are added to the Fund Allocation and used for the bot's future Deals. The reverse applies if the bot made a loss in the previous deal.

Bots will continue to execute orders and complete deals as long as there are still funds set aside in the Fund Allocation for each bot.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you are using the **DYNAMIC** order type, the bot will add previous profits to the next Deal. Hence, it may seem that you have actually allocated sufficient capital, but, in fact, the bot's internally computed allocated capital is higher than your preset value. We recommend using a **STATIC** order if you may be reallocating the profits made by the bots. It is also simpler and clearer.

If you would like to update the Fund Allocation for a Dynamic order bot, please save the bot as STATIC with the new Fund Allocation. Then, when the bot opens with the first deal using the new Fund Allocation, you can update the bot to Dynamic.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
Many users will deploy the excess profits to other purposes (withdrawals, personal trading, etc). Due to this reason, a bot will become deactivated when it encounters an insufficient capital scenario.
{% endhint %}

### Base Order Limit

The share (in percentage) of the Fund Allocation used for the first order executed by the bot. For example, if the Fund Allocation is US$1,000 and the Base Order percentage is 20%, the bot will use US$200 for the total value of the first order.

### Base Order Type

| **Static**                                        | **Dynamic**                                   |
| ------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------- |
| Always the same, as set in Base Order Limit | Changes according to the Bot's performance |
| Profits and losses are not added to the next deal | Profits and losses are added to the next deal |

### Extra Orders

All remaining Allocated Funds that are not used in the Base Order will be allocated for Extra Orders. Extra Orders are triggered when Entry Conditions are fulfilled again before any Exit Conditions, Stop loss or Take Profit triggers.

### Minimum Price Gap Between Extra Orders

This parameter helps ensure that the bot spaces out its trades by a minimum percentage difference in price. For example, if you set the minimum price gap to 5% and the bot places its first (base) order at $100, the next order will only be considered if the price has moved at least 5% away from that level. If the signal engine suggests placing another order at $104, the bot will skip it, since $104 is only a 4% increase from $100, less than the required 5% gap. However, if the price reaches $106, which is a 6% increase, the bot will recognize that the minimum price gap has been met and proceed with the extra buy order.

### Trading Frequency

A trading frequency determines how often a bot should monitor the market data and assess if the entry or exit conditions are met. The faster the trading frequency (< 15 minutes), the larger the number of evaluations that will be performed. Hence, a bot that is configured to trade on a 5-minute frequency will trade more frequently than a bot that runs on a 4-hour frequency.

{% hint style="info" %}
Professional Plan users have access to 1 and 5 minute trading frequencies
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
Read more about [Trading Frequency](https://blog.stockhero.ai/how-trading-frequency-affect-bot-performance/) in our Blog.
{% endhint %}

# Entry / Exit Conditions

### Entry Conditions

The bot can only evaluate data if at least one entry condition is set. Multiple entry conditions can be set at a time. A user can also configure one or multiple [TradingView](/technical-indicators/tradingview) signals for its Entry Conditions.

### Exit Conditions

Similar to Entry Conditions, at least one Exit Condition must be set. The technical indicators set for Exit Conditions need not be the same as those set in Entry Conditions. In Exit Conditions there are two settings that will be prioritized above all Technical Indicators: Stoploss and Take Profit. This means that if the Take Profit condition is met but your exit technical indicator has not been triggered, a market sell order will be executed. However, if the technical indicator trigger is met, the bot will also exit (closing the deal), disregarding your Take Profit or Stop Loss condition.

# Advanced Bots

Available to Premium and Professional users.

Advanced Bots give users absolute control over the parameters associated with a technical indicator. New users or traders are strongly advised to understand how a technical indicator works before trying to configure the indicator's parameters. Alternatively, they can simply rent one of the preset bots from the Bots Marketplace.

{% hint style="info" %}
Professional Plan users have access to the following features: a) 1 minute trading frequency and, b) trading on extended hours.
{% endhint %}

To access the settings, simply add Advanced Bot as shown in the image below:

<figure><img src="/files/54eqXTGvl7kQCuNnnajv" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

and choose the technical indicator in the Entry Conditions tab. You can change the indicator's settings.

Please note that these settings apply to the entry indicator values. If you add Bollinger Band to your exit condition and click on the settings button, you will see the corresponding exit indicator values.

You may also choose a different period for each entry and exit indicator values.

This User Guide will not dwell on the mechanics of each parameter for every technical indicator. This subject requires your own self-study.

### Active Trailing

If Active Trailing is enabled, it means that the extra order will be triggered if the indicator values continue to fall to the level configured for extra order.&#x20;

If it is disabled, it means that the indicator value has to rebound above the base order indicator Level and fall back to the level configured for the extra order, in order for the extra order to be executed.

**Example A:** if Active Trailing is enabled using simple 30 RSI signal for buy, and 25 RSI signal for extra order.

| Time | RSI | Execute Order? |
| ---- | --- | -------------- |
| T    | 50  | No             |
| T+1  | 29  | Base Order     |
| T+2  | 24  | Extra Order    |

**Example B:** if Active Trailing is disabled using simple 30 RSI signal for buy, and 25 RSI signal for extra order.

| Time | RSI | Execute Order? |
| ---- | --- | -------------- |
| T    | 50  | No             |
| T+1  | 29  | Base Order     |
| T+2  | 24  | No             |
| T+3  | 32  | No             |
| T+4  | 24  | Yes            |

### Exit Condition

StockHero's Advanced Bot offers quite a few conditions for exiting a deal. One of the most popular is the Indicator Exit condition. Some traders would like to pair an exit indicator with a minimum profit. Hence, StockHero offers a Minimum Profit for Indicator Trigger option.

This is useful when the bot enters a deal at a set indicator level (for example, RSI = 30 and the price of a stock = 3000), but if the user selects RSI = 70 for exit AND if the market has been free-falling after the deal is opened, even though the RSI may rebound to 70, the exit price could still be lower than the entry price. Closing a deal at this stage would result in a loss.

Hence, a trader may require a deal to have at least a profit even though the exit indicator condition is met.

For example, if Minimum Profit for Indicator Trigger is NOT enabled:

| Action       | RSI                      | Price          |
| ------------ | ------------------------ | -------------- |
| Buy stock X  | 30 (Entry condition met) | 3000 USD       |
| Does nothing | 25                       | 2900 USD       |
| Does nothing | 35                       | 3050 USD       |
| Does nothing | 25                       | 2700 USD       |
| Sell X       | 70 (Exit condition met)  | 2950 USD       |
|              |                          | exit with loss |

But, if Minimum Profit for Indictor Trigger IS enabled:

| Action       | RSI                                            | Price    |
| ------------ | ---------------------------------------------- | -------- |
| Buy stock X  | 30 (Entry condition met)                       | 3000 USD |
| Does nothing | 25                                             | 2900 USD |
| Does nothing | 35                                             | 3050 USD |
| Does nothing | 25                                             | 2700 USD |
| Does nothing | 70 (Exit indicator met but Min Profit not met) | 2950 USD |
| Sell X       | 75 (Exit indicator and Min Profit met)         | 3100 USD |

# DCA Bots

Available to Premium and Professional users

DCA, commonly referred to as the Dollar Cost Average, is a popular accumulation strategy that often spans a long period of time. For experienced traders, the market is known to take on a random "walk." It is absolutely hard to time the market. Hence, it is also near impossible to buy an asset at its lowest price within the window of opportunity.

One of the most well-proven methods for accumulating an asset is the DCA strategy. Essentially, it aims to buy an asset periodically. The entry condition for DCA varies. The most common method is a Regular Savings Plan (RSP) model, popular within the traditional securities market. RSP is simply buying an asset at a fixed time interval, such as the first day of the month.

### Configuring the DCA Bot

You may allocate a fixed amount of funds to your DCA bot, like you would for the Simple and Advanced bots. Alternatively, you may also set a **No-Limit** allocation. The DCA bot will keep deploying your capital until the capital in your brokerage account is insufficient to meet the current order. Upon encountering such a situation, the DCA bot will stop.

<figure><img src="/files/fT25TQCsObfWl7r81CUh" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You must also set the amount of capital for each order that the DCA bot will use to buy the stock.&#x20;

StockHero offers the following entry conditions for DCA bots

* Fixed Time Interval
* Technical Indicators (like Simple and Advanced Bots)
* Buy Down&#x20;
* Sell Up

### Fixed Time Interval

This mode simply configures the bot to buy at every fixed time interval. You may configure the bot to run every day, once a week, or on a specific day in a month.

### Technical Indicators

This is similar to your Advanced bots' technical indicators (such as granular settings and a 2-hour trading interval). In addition, you can also include the Martingale strategy. Please read below for an explanation regarding Martingale.

### Buy Down / Sell Up

This method allows traders to accumulate or dispose of assets as the prices trend down or up respectively. Users can employ the Martingale strategy in this method as well.

### The Martingale Strategy

The Martingale strategy involves essentially increasing the size of each successive trade. The rate-of-increase may be any percentage you set. The premise for this strategy is that all trends will eventually turn around - a bad market cannot stay bad forever. And when the turnaround occurs, the last few trades (which would be the largest in size) will allow a trader to generate a profit much faster.&#x20;

{% hint style="info" %}
Please note that Martingale is based on the quantity of shares purchased and not the notional value of the shares.
{% endhint %}

In StockHero's Martingale strategy, a trader can set XX% from the last trade. For example, if XX = 10%, and if the bot makes 1000 USD worth of purchase (equivalent to 10 shares) in the last trade, the next trade will be 10 shares x 10% more shares in the next purcase = 11 shares. If XX = 100%, the next trade would be 10 shares x 100% = 20 shares. The third trade would be 20 shares x 100% = 40 shares.

If a Martingale strategy is set, it will override the Per Order Amount and Fund Allocation values in the Trade Parameters tab.

{% hint style="info" %}
IMPORTANT: If Martingale is enabled, it will override the Fund Allocation. Please note that the Martingale strategy can quickly deplete your capital!
{% endhint %}

# Exit Bot

Available to Premium and Professional Users

Many times, as traders, we would like to enter into a position with a trading pair immediately without waiting for any Entry conditions.&#x20;

The Exit bot allows you to instruct the bot to buy your designated trading pair immediately after the bot is created and to strictly monitor only the exit conditions.

The Exit bot will use the entire amount set in the Fund Allocation to buy the designated trading pair.&#x20;

When all of the exit conditions are met, the Exit bot will close the deal and return to an inactive state. It will not reactivate itself automatically.

If you liquidate a deal opened by an Exit bot, the bot will also return to an inactive state and will not reactivate immediately.

In both instances above, you need to manually reactivate the Exit bot again.

# Price Bot

Available to Premium and Professional Users

Price Bot allows traders to buy and sell a stock at target buy and sell price levels.&#x20;

If a user sets 3000 USD as the buy price (entry condition) for a stock and 3500 USD as the sell price, the Price Bot will execute a buy order if the stock's price hits 3000 USD and the price is previously higher than 3000 USD.

Assuming Buy Price = 3000 USD and Sell Price = 3500 USD

| Time            | Stock Price | Action       |
| --------------- | ----------- | ------------ |
| X (bot created) | 3200        | Does nothing |
| X+1             | 3600        | Does nothing |
| X+2             | 3000        | Buys Stock   |
| X+3             | 3400        | Does nothing |
| X+4             | 3500        | Sells Stock  |

Another example with same Entry and Exit conditions:

| Time            | Stock Price | Action                 |
| --------------- | ----------- | ---------------------- |
| X (bot created) | 2900        | Buys Stock immediately |
| X+1             | 3000        | Does nothing           |
| X+2             | 3200        | Does nothing           |
| X+3             | 3000        | Does nothing           |
| X+4             | 3500        | Sells Stock            |

# Grid Bot

Available to Professional Users only

A Grid Bot allows a user to set up a grid trading strategy. Grid trading is a strategy in which a trader  earns from the spread between the bid and offer prices.&#x20;

For example, if a buy order is placed at 1000 USD and a sell order is placed at 1100 USD for the same amount of token, the trader would have pocketed 100 USD in profit if both buy and sell orders were filled.

The simplicity (yet complexity due to the surrounding logic) of grid trading appeals to many traders. Even some of the largest hedge funds use grid trading for their market-making strategies.

In fact, most grid strategies have multiple layers of bid and offer prices.

Although grid trading is simple on its own, there are still many complexities and logics surrounding it. However, StockHero is able to simplify these complexities and offer our users an easy-to-deploy grid bot.

This is how a grid strategy works with multiple layers:

Assuming there are two layers, a user will place two buy and two sell orders for a stock as follow:

Sell Level 2: 3100

Sell Level 1: 3000

Buy Level 1: 2900

Buy Level 2: 2800

If both Buy Level 1 and Sell Level 1 trades are filled, the user would have pocketed 100 USD in profit, assuming 1 unit of the stock is transacted. This 100 USD in profit is known as the spread profit. And the spread percentage is about 3.4%. If Buy Level 2 and Sell Level 2 trades were filled, the same user would have earned 300 USD. Collectively, 400 USD in profit would be earned from this single grid strategy, yielding 7% (400 / (2900+2800)) in net profit.

It may seem that a grid trading strategy is a sure-win, but it is not. Grid trading would fail when the market suddenly moves out of range on either the buy or sell side, causing the grid strategy to be handicapped or one-legged. Hence, timing when to create your grid trades and when to exit is important.

### Using StockHero Grid Bot

To deploy a grid strategy, you will need both the stock itself and your native currency to place a buy order. For example, if you want to a deploy grid strategy for the AAPL pair, you will need **both** AAPL and USD assets. This is because the bot will be placing buy orders using USD and sell orders using AAPL.

However, if you are running the bot connected to a margin account that allows you to place Margin-Short orders (without the need to own the physical stock), the DCA bot will still require you to own AAPL shares in order to place sell trades on the opposite side. This is because you cannot simultaneously have both margin-shorts and long-buy positions existing at the same time.

#### Understanding Mid Price

Mid price is the middle price between the closest bid and offer price. For example, if AAPL order book is currently looking like:

Sell Level 2: 3001

Sell Level 1: 3000

Buy Level 1: 2996

Buy Level 2: 2997

the mid price will be 2998 USD.

#### Upper Range Sell Price Limit

This configures the grid bot to place your sell orders below the sell price limit. For example, if the current mid price of the AAPL order book is 2998 USD and the Upper Range Sell Price Limit is 10%, the grid bot will not place any orders above 3297.80 USD (2998 x 110%).

#### Lower Range Buy Price Limit

This configures the grid bot to place your buy orders above the buy floor price limit. For example, if the current mid price of AAPL order book is 180 USD and the Lower Range Buy Price Limit is 10%, the grid bot will not place any orders below 162 USD (180 x 90%).

#### No. of Orders Between Mid Price and Range Limit

This indicates the total orders to place between the mid price and both buy and sell range limits (as described above). The orders will be placed at equal price distances. For example, if the number of orders is 3, the buy orders will be placed at the following price levels in steps of 6 USD ((180 - 162) / 3) :

174 USD

168 USD

162 USD

#### Per Order Amount

This indicates how much of an asset to buy or sell.

After entering all the values, StockHero will automatically calculate how many assets you need in order to run this grid strategy.

### Entry Condition

A key criteria for running a good grid strategy is knowing when to start one. StockHero Grid Bot offers users three options for their entry condition. We will explain the **Range** condition.

The idea of the Range entry condition is that grid trading is typically more successful in a range-trading pattern. Any breakouts would invalidate a grid strategy. Hence, in order to determine a range trading pattern, a user may select the Range condition.&#x20;

The range is measured using the highest and lowest CLOSED price of a candlestick. A range is confirmed to occur if it fulfills the values set by the user.

**When should you use the&#x20;*****Lesser*****&#x20;condition and when should you use the&#x20;*****Greater*****&#x20;condition?** A Lesser condition is a safer bet due to its lagging nature in confirming that a range trading pattern has started. A more aggressive trader would select Greater condition if he or she wanted to enter a grid trade almost immediately after a breakout or crash.

### Exit Condition

Knowing when to exit an unfavorable grid trading position is as important as knowing when to enter.

StockHero Grid Bot will automatically close a deal if all buy and sell orders are filled. However, there are situations when a user may want to exit the grid trade entirely. A user can set the maximum *Wait Time* for the grid bot to wait for all its buy/sell orders to be filled. The grid bot can also be configured to exit if a breakout occurs. This is determined by the Outer Range Limit value.

For example, if the Outer Range Limit is set at 5% and we use the above AAPL example of 10% as the Range Limits, the grid bot will exit if the price of AAPL exceeds 5% above 3297.80 = 3462.69 USD.&#x20;

A user can choose what to do with the remaining unfilled orders if the grid bot exits. Some users prefer to leave the open orders hanging in order to keep the previous grid strategy intact. After all, if all buy and sell orders are filled, the grid strategy is considered successful, and the bot automatically restarts with a new set of grid trades.

{% hint style="info" %}
Please note that the backtest feature is not available for a grid bot.
{% endhint %}

# Sell Bot

Available for Premium and Professional plans

StockHero's Sell Bot allows a user to sell an existing asset based on the desired exit conditions. For example, if a user already has 1 unit of AAPL and would like to sell 1 APPL stock when the price reaches a certain level, the Sell Bot can be used for such a purpose.

### Setting the Average Entry Price

The Average Entry Price allows the Sell Bot to know what your cost is for acquiring the stock. It is used to calculate the profit and loss for the deal when the Sell Bot exits. If the Average Entry Price is set to zero, then the PnL will be zero as well.

### Exit Conditions

A user can configure the bot to exit based on the following conditions:

1. when a price level is reached
2. Indicators
3. TradingView

### Difference Between Exit Bot and Sell Bot

The Exit Bot will immediately use the fund allocation to **buy** the selected stock. The Sell Bot will not. It will assume that you already have the stock that the Sell Bot will sell when the exit condition is met.

# Momentum Bot

#### What is Momentum Trading?

Momentum trading, also known as directional trading, is a strategy that capitalizes on the continuation of existing market trends. By identifying and riding the wave of upward or downward price movements, traders aim to generate profits by trading in the same direction as the trend. The Momentum Bot enables traders to go long (betting on price increases) or short (profiting from price declines), offering flexibility and precision to suit diverse market conditions.

#### Creating the Momentum Bot

Access the Web App at <https://app.stockhero.ai>

1. Go to the Bots page
2. Then click the Create New Bots >> Momentum bot button as shown in the image below.

<figure><img src="/files/SD12K5khEyZ5nsnDMv3L" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. You will see the Create New Bot page.
4. Please note that for Momentum Bot, you can only create one extra order. This means the bot only allows you to execute a total of two trades (base order + extra order) in a single direction. This is to prevent the dollar-cost-averaging effect from taking place if the extra orders is alot. A user can always use the DCA bot for sustained trade execution in a single direction.

#### Entry Conditions

StockHero's Momentum bot allows you to configure two triggers for executing trades.&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/V1lI76KQoUvymwmtB2Pl" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The Base Order value instructs the bot to buy when the price increases by X% from the price captured at the time when the bot is created.&#x20;

For example, if the value is 2% (as shown in the image above), this means that if the price of the share is $100 when the bot is created and the price goes to $102, the bot will place a base order.

The Extra Order value instructs the bot to buy **again** if the price increases by Y% from the price captured at the time when the bot is created.&#x20;

For example, if the value is 4% (as shown in the image above), this means that if the price of the share is $100 when the bot is created and the price goes to $104, the bot will place an extra order.

Please note that it is optional to set the Extra Order percentage.

The Take Profit or Stop Loss level is based on the average purchase price of the Base and Extra order prices.

# Trailing Stoploss

Available to Premium and Professional Users within Advanced Bot

Trailing Stoploss is an extremely useful feature for traders to capture profits as the market moves up. The stoploss price level goes up in tandem with the asset's price. So, if the price of an asset drops after appreciating, the dynamically increased stoploss level will be hit, thus capturing profits for the trader.

StockHero offers two types of Trailing Stoploss in addition to the Absolute Stoploss, which was already offered in previous versions. The two types are:

* Fixed TSL
* Variable TSL

### Fixed Trailing Stoploss

Fixed TSL moves up your stop loss level at regular preset interval.&#x20;

![(Fixed TSL option in Exit Condition tab)](/files/-MlQKLrl4BcOZPR1lJ8C)

Based on the example above, this means the stoploss level will be set at 1% below the current all time high price of the asset if the latter's price appreciates 2% above the Buy Price. For every 2% above the Buy Price, the stop loss level inches upwards to 1% below the latest price jump interval. The Fixed TSL is immediately set when the bot opens a deal.

Following the example above, the specific stop loss values are as follow:

| Asset Price | Trailing Stop Loss |
| :------------------: | :---------------------: |
| Open Deal at 100 USD |          99 USD         |
|        102 USD       |        100.98 USD       |
|        103 USD       |        100.98 USD       |
|        104 USD       |        102.96 USD       |
|      102.50 USD      |        102.96 USD       |
|       105.9 USD      |        102.96 USD       |
|      106.12 USD      |        104.94 USD       |
|       104.5 USD      | Stop Loss at 104.94 USD |

### Variable Trailing Stoploss

As the name implies, Variable TSL gives the trader the utmost flexibility as to which price level should trigger a new trailing stoploss level.&#x20;

![(Variable TSL in Advanced Bot' Exit Condition tab)](/files/-MlQO-vpIixnbGwMde52)

From the image above, this bot has been configured for just one level for the trailing stoploss. If the price appreciates more than 2%, the trailing stoploss level will remain the same.

![(Multiple Variable TSL levels)](/files/-MlQOjePB6z9Pc65JM80)

For the image above, there are three TSL levels configured for the bot. The table below depicts the specific TSL price for each level.

| Asset Price | Trailing Stop Loss |
| :------------------: | :----------------: |
| Open Deal at 100 USD |       99 USD       |
|        101 USD       |       99 USD       |
|        102 USD       |     100.98 USD     |
|        106 USD       |     103.88 USD     |
|        112 USD       |     103.88 UDS     |
|        115 USD       |     113.85 USD     |

### Hint!

Variable Trailing Stoploss allows you to have a combination of Absolute Stoploss and Trailing Stoploss. Simply set the first level as&#x20;

**Set \[ absolute stoploss ] below current price when price hits \[ 0.01% ] above Buy Price.**&#x20;

# Trailing Take Profit

Trailing Take Profit (TTP) allows a trader to progressively sell his assets for profits as the price appreciates. Similar to StockHero's Trailing Stoploss, a user can set the following TTPs:

* Fixed TTP
* Variable TTP

#### Fixed TTP

Fixed TTP allows a trader to exit a fixed percentage of the stocks bought by the bot for every fixed increase in the price level.&#x20;

For example, if the buy price is 100 USD and the quantity of stock purchased is 100, the following table will illustrate exactly how much of the purchased stock will be sold.

Fixed TTP Settings: Sell 1% of asset at every 2% above Buy Price

| Price | Qty of Stocks Sold | Balance |
| ----- | ------------------ | ------- |
| 101   | 0                  | 100     |
| 102   | 1                  | 99      |
| 104   | 1                  | 98      |

#### Variable TTP

Variable TTP allows a trader to exit a percentage of their stock holdings whenever a price level is hit. The intervals between the price levels are not the same. It is important for the trader to ensure that the total percentages for all the asset allocations are equal to 100%.

<figure><img src="/files/lpZqziUrCT0TaKkoauXT" alt=""><figcaption><p>(Total Sell Percentages = 100%. Variable TTP is correctly configured)</p></figcaption></figure>

If the exit percentage is not equal to 100%, the bot will never exit since there are remaining stocks that are not sold.

### Trailing Take Profit And Extra Order Combination

TTP allows a trader to run a dynamic, yo-yo strategy. If a bot has activated TTP and encounters an entry condition again, an extra order (if set by the user) will be executed by the bot.&#x20;

This interplay of buy-sell-buy-sell allows a user to run a longer strategy profitably, as long as the price appreciates in the long run.

When a new extra order is executed, the average buy price will be refreshed based on previous buy/sell orders.

A deal is considered complete only when the bot has sold all the stocks bought in previous orders.

# Bot's Performance Stats

Know how good your bots are

StockHero offers traders two of the most common metrics used to track financial performance for an investment: the Sharpe Ratio and the Max Drawdown. In principle, a Sharpe Ratio measures the excess returns above the risk-free rate of return.&#x20;

The risk-free rate of return is simply the return on the safest type of investment instrument, such as government bonds and fixed deposits. As each country has its own risk-free type of investment return, StockHero allows the user to set the Risk Free Rate of Return in the Settings page.

Go to Settings >> Formula to set your Risk Free Rate.

# Strategy Designer

Available for Premium and Professional users

StockHero's latest revolutionary Strategy Designer allows a trader to create complex strategies easily. A complex strategy can also be loosely called a MultiStrat in the hedge fund world. Multiple strategies are combined to create an overarching strategy. For example, a long-short strategy is considered MultiStrat as it consists of a long strategy followed by a short strategy, with each executing consecutively.

StockHero's Strategy Designer offers advanced traders the ability to create complex strategies that capture a greater part of the market movement. For example, a trader can create a long-short strategy using our Strategy Designer.

The actual implementation is via Daisy-Chain in StockHero. The Strategy Designer is only available for Advanced bot types.

Let us illustrate with an example on how to implement a Long-Short MultiStrat strategy.

* User creates Bot X (Advanced Bot) for Long strategy
* User creates Bot Y for Short strategy
* User configures Bot X to activate Daisy-Chain and also the "First in Daisy-Chain" option. When enabled, bot X will start to run after it is created. See picture below.

<figure><img src="/files/AK5suvvpJUplOIGhfVjt" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* User sets Bot Y to activate Daisy-Chain but "First in Daisy-Chain" is NOT enabled. When bot Y is created, bot Y will NOT run. Its trigger is from Bot X as we will see below
* User sets bot X exit condition to trigger bot Y after X completes a deal. Similarly, Bot Y's exit condition has been set to trigger Bot X after Y completes a deal
* After X and Y are created, only X will run and monitor the market
* Bot X completes a deal and X sends trigger to Bot Y. X will NOT auto-restart. X will be deactivated
* Bot Y activates and monitors the market
* Bot Y completes a deal and triggers Bot X
* Bot X "wakes up" from its deactivated state and start to run. The whole cycle repeats.

As shown in the example above, a user has successfully created a Long-Short strategy.&#x20;

A user can link two or more bots in a daisy-chain as well.

\[Bot A]  > \[Bot B] > \[Bot C] > ….. > \[Bot Z]

If the LAST bot Z has NO trigger condition in the EXIT condition, the whole strategy (Bot A to Z) will only run once. But, if Bot Z Exit Condition has a trigger to Bot A, then the whole strategy repeats. I.e. Bot A will “wake up” and start to monitor the market.

StockHero's Strategy Designer is like a 4GL programming language for automated trading. A trader can create multiple bots, each with its own condition, in order to create a single holistic strategy. It is really up to the trader's expertise and imagination as to what complex strategy to setup using the Strategy Designer.

### Example 1

Three bots MultiStrat

| <p><br></p>     | Bot A                                                 | Bot B                                                  | Bot C                                                  |
| --------------- | ----------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------ |
| Entry Condition | <p>Activate Daisy Chain = True</p><p>First = True</p> | <p>Activate Daisy Chain = True</p><p>First = False</p> | <p>Activate Daisy Chain = True</p><p>First = False</p> |
| Exit Condition  | Trigger B                                             | Trigger C                                              | Trigger A                                              |

Above strategy will cause the following sequence: A > B > C > A > B > C > (repeats)

Bot A will activate on creating/updating since Activate Daisy-Chain = True AND First=True

### Example 2

| <p><br></p>     | Bot A                                                 | Bot B                                                  | Bot C                                                  |
| --------------- | ----------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------ |
| Entry Condition | <p>Activate Daisy Chain = True</p><p>First = True</p> | <p>Activate Daisy Chain = True</p><p>First = False</p> | <p>Activate Daisy Chain = True</p><p>First = False</p> |
| Exit Condition  | Trigger B                                             | Trigger C                                              | Trigger B                                              |

Above strategy will cause the following sequence: A > B > C > B > C > (repeats)

You can see that Bot A is only run once as no other bot triggers Bot A.

### Example 3

<table data-header-hidden><thead><tr><th></th><th width="206"></th><th></th><th></th><th></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><br></td><td>Bot A</td><td>Bot B</td><td>Bot C</td><td>Bot D</td></tr><tr><td>Entry Condition</td><td><p>Activate Daisy Chain = True</p><p>First = True</p></td><td><p>Activate Daisy Chain = True</p><p>First = False</p></td><td><p>Activate Daisy Chain = True</p><p>First = False</p></td><td><p>Activate Daisy Chain = True</p><p>First = False</p></td></tr><tr><td>Exit Condition</td><td>Trigger B</td><td>Trigger C</td><td>Trigger D</td><td>Trigger A</td></tr></tbody></table>

Above strategy will cause the following sequence A > B > C > D > A > (repeats)

### Example 4

<table data-header-hidden><thead><tr><th width="103"></th><th width="146"></th><th width="147"></th><th width="139"></th><th></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><br></td><td>Bot A</td><td>Bot B</td><td>Bot C</td><td>Bot D</td></tr><tr><td>Entry Condition</td><td><p>Activate Daisy Chain = True</p><p>First = True</p></td><td><p>Activate Daisy Chain = True</p><p>First = False</p></td><td><p>Activate Daisy Chain = True</p><p>First = True</p></td><td><p>Activate Daisy Chain = True</p><p>First = False</p></td></tr><tr><td>Exit Condition</td><td>Trigger B</td><td>Trigger C</td><td>Trigger D</td><td>Trigger A</td></tr></tbody></table>

Above strategy will cause bots A and C to be activated together.

Sequence: A > B > C > D > A > (repeats)

What if Bot C activates BO first?, then, it will look like

C > D > A > B > C > D > A > (repeats)

Hence, there is a danger of “race condition” (in computer science where two resources compete for the same resource X) if a user sets two bots as First=True in a single daisy-chain.

So if a Bot X calls another bot Y to activate and Y is already active, X will become deactivated (as per normal, like a daisy-chain bot), but an error message will appear: “Attempt to call an active bot in the daisy-chain.” However, X can still be activated again if another bot triggers X as part of the Daisy Chain.

{% hint style="info" %}
Multiple Daisy Chains can be created as well such that each chain of bots are mutually exclusive.&#x20;
{% endhint %}

### Strategy Designer for TradingView

Daisy-Chain linking can also be activated for TradingView signals.&#x20;

Whenever a signal is received and if the bot has daisy-chain enabled, StockHero will check if the bot is "First in Daisy-Chain." If yes, the bot will execute a trade. If not, the bot will check the prior linked bot to see if it has already completed a deal. If yes, the bot will execute a trade; otherwise, it will do nothing.

# Bollinger Band

The Bollinger Bands (BB) were created in the early 1980s by financial analyst and trader John Bollinger. Bollinger Bands work as oscillators. It indicates whether the market has high or low volatility, as well as overbought or oversold conditions.&#x20;

{% hint style="info" %}
StockHero Bollinger Band: a buy signal is generated when the candlestick data reaches an oversold region, and a sell signal is generated when it reaches an overbought region.
{% endhint %}

![](/files/-M64Hd5Tv5Qm7ctlwfjC)

The core concept behind the BB indicator is to highlight how prices are dispersed around an average value. More specifically, it is composed of an upper band (red), a lower band (yellow), and a middle band (blue), also known as the middle moving average line. The two sidelong bands react to the market price action, expanding when the volatility is high, moving away from the middle line, and contracting when the volatility is low, moving towards the middle line.

```
Middle line = (SMA, n)
Upper band = (SMA, n) + (20-day standard deviation * y)
Lower band = (SMA, n) - (20-day standard deviation * y)
Where:
n = Time Period
y = standard deviation multiplier
```

The standard Bollinger Bands formula sets the middle line as an X-day Simple Moving Average (SMA), while the upper and lower bands are calculated based on market volatility in relation to the SMA, which is referred to as the standard deviation.

# EMA

Exponential Moving Average (EMA) is a weighted approach derived from Simple Moving Average (SMA). EMA gives more weight to more recent price data, with the core concept that the more recent the data is, the higher the value it should have. In contrast, SMA gives equal weight throughout the averages, regardless of time relevancy. Using a longer time period for moving averages indicates long-term trends; short time frame periods indicate short term trends.

{% hint style="info" %}
StockHero EMA: a buy signal is generated when the short-term EMA crosses above the long-term EMA; a sell signal is generated when the short-term EMA crosses below the long-term EMA.
{% endhint %}

![](/files/-M64JNU121s8dh3BuwSh)

A rising EMA suggests an upward trend, and a falling MA indicates a downtrend. EMA Crossing is a crossover signal created when two different time period EMAs crossover in a chart. A bullish crossover happens when the short-term MA (blue) crosses above a long-term one (red), suggesting the start of an upward trend. In contrast, a bearish crossover happens when a short-term MA crosses below a long-term moving average, which indicates the beginning of a downtrend.&#x20;

```
SMA = ( Sum (Price, n) ) / n
EMA = ( P - EMAp ) * K + EMAp
Where:
P = Price
EMAp = the Exponential moving Average for the previous period
K = 2 / (n + 1), the smoothing constant
n = Time Period
```

# RSI

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) is a momentum oscillator that measures the magnitude of price movements as well as the speed or velocity of these movements. RSI measures the changes in price over a time period. The formula divides the average gain the price has had over that time by the average loss it has sustained, and then plots the data on a scale from 0 to 100, which is plotted on a separate chart.&#x20;

{% hint style="info" %}
StockHero RSI: a buy signal is generated when RSI is oversold, a sell signal is generated when RSI is overbought.
{% endhint %}

![](/files/-M64LTSkisznQUdV5hHE)

RSI values (purple) closer to 100 indicate overbought market conditions, while values closer to 0 indicate oversold conditions. Thresholds (yellow band) are usually assigned to RSI values; anything below 30 can indicate oversold, while values above 70 can indicate overbought. For time periods and trading intervals, lower thresholds may be used as a measure to reduce market noise or to produce a more confident signal.

```
RSI = 100 – 100/ (1 + RS)
RS = Average Gain of n days UP  / Average Loss of n days DOWN
```

# Stoch RSI

Stochastic RSI, or Stoch RSI, is a derivative of the Relative Strength Index (RSI). It is a momentum oscillator type of technical indicator. It oscillates between 0-100 values. RSI values closer to 0 indicate oversold market conditions, while values closer to 100 indicate overbought conditions.&#x20;

{% hint style="info" %}
StockHero Stoch RSI: a buy signal is generated when Stoch RSI is oversold, a sell signal is generated when Stoch RSI is overbought.
{% endhint %}

![](/files/-M64NAGVQ-aWiQ3388gs)

Stochastic RSI values (red and blue lines) closer to 0 indicate overbought market conditions, while values closer to 100 indicate oversold conditions. Thresholds (yellow band) are usually assigned to Stochastic RSI values; anything below 20 indicates oversold, while values above 80 can indicate overbought. For time periods and trading intervals, lower thresholds may be used as a measure to reduce market noise or to produce a more confident signal.

```
RSI = 100 – 100/ (1 + RS)
RS = Average Gain of n days UP  / Average Loss of n days DOWN
Stoch RSI = (RSI - Lowest Low RSI) / (Highest High RSI - Lowest Low RSI)
Where:
n = Time Period
```

# MACD

The Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) technical indicator is a popular trend prediction tool that provides an indication of a bull or bear inflection point.

MACD consists of three key parameters, namely the slow and fast periods, and the signal lines. The MACD line is formed by subtracting the value of the slow period from the value of the fast period. The standard is 26 for the slow period and 12 for the fast period.

## Determining the Trends

Traders often make use of the crossover between the MACD and Signal line to determine if the market is heading into a bullish or bearish phase.&#x20;

* If the MACD line crosses the Signal line from below to above, it is generally considered bullish.
* If the MACD line crosses the Signal line from above to below, it is generally considered bearish.

The crossovers are often triggers for traders to enter or exit a position.

![(Bullish Trend)](/files/-MjrXYHhLMhNRxvaGR8t)

From the graph above, we can see that the MACD line (blue line) crosses the signal line (red line) on or near Aug 31, 2021. The following few days resulted in a bullish uptrend for the stock.

![(Bearish Trend)](/files/-MjrXy7rrW0bQlkkl-cv)

For the same stock, the previous bullish trend turned around to a bearish trend on September 7. As the chart shows, the MACD line has dropped from above to below the signal line.

For seasoned traders, StockHero offers the ability for them to configure the specific values for the fast and slow periods as well as the signal line period.&#x20;

# Volume

Volume is often a key metric in determining if a breakout is a fake-out or if it is possibly real. Typically, if a breakout is sustained with low volume, then the breakout may turn out to be a false alarm. However, if a breakout is accompanied by strong volume, it is usually a sign that the rally can be sustained.

StockHero allows our users to include a Volume indicator. The volume indicator can be configured by setting an average volume over the previous X number of time intervals (candlesticks). It does not include the volume in the current candlestick.

# TradingView

Available for Premium and Professional plans

TradingView is the world's largest P2P trade signal marketplace. A user who is very experienced in TradingView (TV) can now leverage TV's signal and activate StockHero's bot to enter a trade.

StockHero has made it very versatile for a user to integrate TradingView. A user can receive TV's signals and activate either *Base* or *Extra* orders. TV's signal integration is also available in Advanced, DCA, and Exit bot types, therefore enhancing the capabilities of our bots.

With this feature, a StockHero user will be able to access thousands of TV's technical indicators and signals and integrate them with StockHero.

You can configure TradingView for both entry and exit conditions.

### Integrating TradingView

{% hint style="info" %}
If you activate TradingView for your bot, you cannot accommodate other indicators. TradingView signal integration operates exclusively as its own indicator. Please note that you will need to subscribe to the TradingView Pro plan in order to utilize the WebHook feature.
{% endhint %}

To integrate TradingView, first create an alert. You need to have an existing account with TradingView in order to do this.

Look for the **Alert actions** configuration. It will look like this:

Enter the URL below (as shown in the image above) into the Webhook URL field:&#x20;

&#x20;                                                          <mark style="color:orange;"><https://web.stockhero.ai/tvapi></mark>

Please note that you need to activate/check the box "Webhook URL" in your TradingView Notifications tab. See below.

<figure><img src="/files/biYmrB9QiaEYpBsopynL" alt=""><figcaption><p>(You need to check the box - Webhook URL)</p></figcaption></figure>

After you have set the Webhook URL in your TradingView account, proceed to select the Option "Only Once" or "Every Time" as shown in the image below.

![(Select Only Once)](/files/DS77oIzfrbmlrMebbm97)

If you select "Only Once," this will prevent TV from repeatedly sending messages to StockHero each time the condition is met. If you select "Every Time," TV will notify StockHero each time the TV condition is met. **Choose "Every Time" if you have multiple extra orders set for the bot.**

You may also set an expiration time for the TV alert if you prefer. Please be aware that if there is an expiration date, the bot will no longer be effective after the expiration date.

### Adding TradingView to your Bot

You may add up to five TradingView signals for each Entry and Exit conditions (it may vary as we further develop this).&#x20;

To activate TradingView for your bot, click on the TV switch as shown in the image below.

<figure><img src="/files/kK6cr1w31kgRah1A4yWK" alt=""><figcaption><p>Enabling TradingVIew</p></figcaption></figure>

Then, click the Add Indicator button. A pop-up window showing the TV settings will be shown. Each TV indicator is unique. You will be able to configure if this specific and unique TV indicator should make a Base or Extra order purchase.

Please note that in order to give our users the utmost flexibility, StockHero allows the user to create up to five TV indicators. Not only that, you can also create combinations of the indicators to either activate the Base or Extra orders. As long as any TV signal is received, StockHero will activate the entry condition (or exit condition if the TV indicator is set there).&#x20;

Let's assume you have created three TV indicators as shown in the image below:

If the topmost indicator (listening for a base order) is received, StockHero will execute your base order. However, if either of the bottom two TV indicator signals is received, StockHero will execute your extra order. However, if any of the two Extra Order indicators are received before the Base order indicator, the Extra order indicator will be ignored.

Let's look at this example where all three TV indicators are listening for the Base order:

<figure><img src="/files/uCxrsqlig8i8srFIFtO7" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The bot will call the entry condition if any of the three TV indicators is received by StockHero.

### Adding the StockHero's TV Message to TradingView

Each StockHero TV indicator has its own unique message string. It will look like this

> {"checksum":"some random string","type":"entry","order":"base"}

Simply copy and paste the entire message into your TradingView's Message box. The message box is located below the Webhook URL field.

![(TradingView Alert Window - Placeholder for StockHero message)](/files/wdXWhmmyLkGB6ek7v4ls)

{% hint style="info" %}
Be sure to include the opening and closing braces - " { " and " } "
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
IMPORTANT: Backtest does not work for TradingView signals as StockHero signal engine does not receive historical TradingView signals.
{% endhint %}

# Mandatory Indicators

StockHero allows an indicator to be set as Mandatory (or required). A mandatory indicator basically means that the entry/exit condition must contain the signal for this indicator before the entry/exit condition is considered fulfilled.

A mandatory indicator will make more sense if a user has set at least two indicators for the entry/exit condition. Sometimes, a user may create up to five indicators and set the condition that at least two of them need to be met before the entry or exit condition is fulfilled. However, the user may require one of the five indicators to be present, and hence, will tag that indicator as "Mandatory".

The table below shows an example of when the entry or exit condition is considered fulfilled. An (R) beside the indicator denotes a Mandatory indicator.

| Indicators                     | Combination | Signal Received  | Condition Met? |
| ------------------------------ | ----------- | ---------------- | -------------- |
| RSI, Volume                    | 1 of 2      | RSI              | Y              |
| RSI(R), Volume                 | 1 of 2      | Volume           | N              |
| RSI(R), Volume                 | 1 of 2      | RSI              | Y              |
| RSI,EMA(R),Stoch RSI           | 2 of 3      | RSI, Stoch RSI   | N              |
| RSI,EMA(R),Stoch RSI           | 2 of 3      | RSI, EMA         | Y              |
| RSI,EMA(R),Stoch RSI           | 2 of 3      | EMA, Stoch RSI   | Y              |
| RSI(R),EMA,SRSI, BB, Volume    | 2 of 5      | EMA, SRSI        | N              |
| RSI(R),EMA(R),SRSI, BB, Volume | 3 of 5      | EMA, SRSI, BB    | N              |
| RSI(R),EMA(R),SRSI, BB, Volume | 3 of 5      | RSI, EMA, Volume | Y              |

Mandatory indicators offer traders a powerful option to remove "noise" from the market.

### Mandatory TradingView Signal

You can also set a TradingView signal as a "Required" indicator. If this is enabled, you will need to set the Validity period. The Validity period refers to how long the bot should hold a TradingView signal before the next TradingView signal is received.

For example, if you set "60" seconds as the Validity period and TradingView Signal 1 is received, the next TradingView Signal 2 that arrives within 60 seconds from the receipt of Signal 1 will evaluate Signal 1 as a Required signal and execute the trade. If Signal 2 arrives after 60 seconds from the receipt of Signal 1, the bot will not execute. This is because Signal 1 is set as a "Required" indicator.

# Trading Account Connection

Some users may have multiple account types in his or her main brokerage account. These account types usually fall into the following categories:

* Cash
* Margin
* Roth
* Money Market

And for each of the category, it is also not uncommon to have multiple sub-accounts (for example IRA Roth and Traditional Roth). StockHero allows a user to connect to a specific sub-account type after the user has established a connection with his brokerage account.

### Connecting to a Specific Account Type

1. Go to StockHero >> Settings >> Brokerage API page
2. Under the Connected Brokerages section, click the vertical row of dots that appear on the top right of the brokerage.
3. Select **Connect Account**
4. A pop up window displaying your sub-accounts will appear.&#x20;
5. Click the sub-account that corresponds to the cash and shares that you want to trade from.
6. Visit the StockHero > Portfolio page and ensure that your USD amount is correct.

## Check that StockHero can read your TradeStation balance

StockHero offers users the option to connect to either or both TradeStation (Cash) or/and TradeStation (Margin) accounts. TradeStation offers users two account types - Cash and Margin.

{% hint style="info" %}
**What is the difference between a Cash and Margin account?**&#x20;

A Cash account does not allow you to do margin-shorts (selling a stock without owning it), while a Margin account allows it.

If you do shorts often, please connect TradeStation (Margin) to your StockHero account.
{% endhint %}

If you have connected to TradeStation (Cash) and do not see the balance in the StockHero Portfolio page, most probably your equity and cash balances are residing in your TradeStation (Margin) account.

A TradeStation user can opt to have **either** or **both** of the account types (Cash and Margin). Correspondingly, a StockHero user can add either or both TradeStation Cash or Margin accounts to his or her StockHero account.

To check where your funds are actually held, please follow the steps below:

1. Login to your TradeStation Client Center and click "Accounts" at the top menu.

# Wealthsimple

https\://www\.wealthsimple.com

Wealthsimple users must first establish a USD account within their primary Wealthsimple brokerage account to minimize unnecessary currency conversion fees and for Wealthsimple to provide USD prices to the bots.

For detailed instructions on funding your Wealthsimple account with USD, please refer to this [article](https://help.wealthsimple.com/hc/en-ca/articles/4415548242971-Convert-funds-to-USD-or-CAD-within-a-trading-account).&#x20;

Please remember to fund your Wealthsimple account with USD before deploying the bots.

**IMPORTANT:** Users must also maintain a CAD balance in addition to the USD balance. Wealthsimple will evaluate your available balance based on your CAD amount and if there is sufficient CAD cash to execute the trade, the USD balance will be used to buy the stocks.

# Terminology

Definitions and meanings of words and phrases found in StockHero

## APY

Annual Percentage Yield, as it is called, calculates the return of an investment over a twelve-month period based on compounding interests and returns within the same period. For example, if a bot has been operating for six months and has an absolute 25% return (starting capital is 1000 USD, end of six months is 1250 USD), the APY will be 56.25%.&#x20;

## Bot

A *bot* is a program which executes trades (such as buy or sell) based on the entry and exit conditions set by the user. The advantage of a bot is the ability to monitor market conditions on a 24/7 basis and consequently to start a *deal* when an entry condition is met. Please note that in StockHero's context, a bot is NOT a strategy (read below for the definition on *strategy*).

## Deal

A *deal* is created by a bot whenever entry conditions are met. A *deal* consists of a set of trades. Whenever a bot's entry condition is met for the first time, a *deal* will be created along with the first trade. You will see this newly created *deal o*n the Deals page under the **Open Deals** tab. You may view the trades contained in a *deal* by clicking on the eye icon.

A *deal* is completed when the bot's exit conditions are met or when the deal is *liquidated* by the user. A completed *deal* can be found under the **Completed Deals** tab.

A *deal* always consists of at least two trades: a buy and a sell trade. There may be multiple buy trades depending on whether the bot has been configured for **Extra Orders.**

A chronological order of how a bot creates a deal is illustrated below:

Time T: Bot monitors market signals

T + 1h: Bot's entry condition is met and creates a new *deal*. Bot executes a buy order in the newly created *deal*. This same *deal* can be found under the Open Deals tab.

T + 2h: Bot's exit condition is met and executes a sell order. The *deal* is now marked as Complete. This completed *deal* can be found under the Completed Deals tab.

## Portfolio

A *portfolio* is a collection of stocks linked to the user's broker's account. It is usually denominated in USD. The total USD portfolio value may fluctuate due to the differences in USD pricing for each of the underlying stocks.

## Liquidate

If a *deal* remains open, the user has the option to instruct the bot to ignore the exit conditions and execute a Market Sell order. This is known as *liquidation*. After a *deal* is liquidated, the *deal* completes (the completed *deal* is found under the **Completed Deals** tab), and the bot resets itself. The reset bot will then create a new *deal* based on the entry condition for the corresponding *Base order* amount.

## Filled

A buy or sell trade is considered *filled* if the entire quantity of the underlying stocks is fully bought or sold. For example, if the bot executes a buy order for 1 AAPL and only 0.3 AAPL is bought, this order is considered *partially filled.* It is only when the remaining 0.7 AAPL is also purchased that the buy trade will be considered *filled*.

## W/L Ratio

StockHero tracks all of the completed *deals* which result in profits or losses. If all of a user's *deals* are profitable, then the *W/L (Win/Loss) Ratio* is 100%. If, out of ten completed *deals*, only three are profitable, then the *W/L Ratio* is 30%.

## Bot Status = Waiting for Entry

A *bot* is waiting to create a new *deal* based on the entry conditions set. No trades have been executed yet. The bot is running actively.

## Bot Status = In Progress

A *bot* that has already created a *deal* will display the status as "In Progress". An Open Deal will be created. You will see this open *deal* on the Deals page. The bot is still actively monitoring the market, waiting to make the next trade.

## Fund Allocation

A user can set the maximum amount of capital made available to the bot to trade from. *Fund allocation* is an essential tool in risk management for any user. For example, a user may only want to allocate 10% of his capital to a bot if the bot's strategy is yet to be proven. Subsequently, the user can increase the *fund allocation* if the bot's strategy is good.

## Base Order Limit & Extra Orders

*The Base order limit* dictates how much of the allocated fund to use for making the first trade (when a *deal* is newly created by the bot). This is best illustrated through the following example:

If a user allocates 10,000 USD and sets the base order limit at 20%, the bot will utilize 2,000 USD (representing 20% of 10,000 USD) to execute the first order.

Extra Orders refers to the number of subsequent trades (after the first trade is made) that the bot will execute. The extra orders are divided equally from the remainder left after the base order limit is deducted from the allocated fund.

&#x20; Fund Allocation = Base Order + Extra Orders

Using the above example, if the user sets the base order limit at 20% and wants the bot to make two additional Extra orders, each of the extra orders will utilize 40% of the allocated fund, since after the base order is executed, only 80% of the allocated fund remains.

## Trading Frequency

A *bot* will acquire the market data at intervals defined by *trading frequency*.&#x20;

15m - Bot reads market data every 15 minutes

1h - Bot reads market data every 1 hour

4h - Bot reads market data every 4 hour

1D - Bot reads market data once a day

After a bot has acquired the data at each interval, it will process the same data and determine if entry or exit conditions are met. If conditions are met, a trade will be executed.

## Indicator

An indicator is a trade signal or value derived from complex algorithms based on the type of indicator used. These algorithms acquire market data such as volume, price, price-action, momentum, and so on, and subsequently produce a value or signal for traders as part of their decision-making process.&#x20;

## Take Profit

A user can configure the bot to close a deal if the profit hits a percentage of the allocated fund. A Take Profit exit condition has priority over Indicator-based exit conditions.

## Stop Loss

A user can configure the bot to close a deal if the loss hits a percentage of the allocated fund. Please note that Take Profit and Stop Loss have priority over indicator-based exit conditions.

## Strategy

A strategy is a pre-built model that determines when a bot should buy or sell. It is offered for rental on the Strategy Marketplace. From one strategy rental, a user can create up to eight bots.

Think of a strategy as a money-printing machine: each machine has its own unique design, and each “note” it prints represents a bot. Every bot is built using the model embedded within the strategy.

## Backtest

A user can test the efficacy of a bot (based on the parameters set) by running a backtest. This is a risk-free way for users to check that their bot's performance is acceptable. However, it must be noted that a good backtest result does not necessarily guarantee good forward-looking performance for the bot.

# Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common issues faced by our users

## Why is StockHero not showing my account balance even though I have few thousands in my TradeStation account?

The most common reason is that your funds are held in your TradeStation >> Margin account type. The tradable balance that you see in your TradeStation account consists of both Cash and Margin account types. You need to make sure that your funds are held in your **Cash** account. To check where your funds are actually held, login to your TradeStation Client Center and click "Accounts" at the top menu. Then, click on Equities Account >> Balances. Select any date range and click the View/Download button. Check that the account type is **Cash**. If it is not, call the TradeStation customer service team to help you move the funds.

## Why is my bot not doing anything after few hours?

How soon a bot opens a new deal (either executing a buy or sell order if the strategy is long or short, respectively) will depend on the Entry Conditions configured for the bot. It is common for a bot to take days or even weeks before the prescribed Entry Conditions are met, depending on market volatility.

One of the most important and deciding factors is the bot's interval. The shorter the interval (15 m), the higher the chances for the bot to enter into a trade faster. Conversely, the longer the interval (1 h to 1 D), the longer the bot takes to enter into a trade. There are certain pros and cons to trading between short and long intervals. One of the considerations is the user's risk appetite.&#x20;

As a general rule of thumb, the shorter the interval (15 m versus 1 h), the faster the bot will execute the trade.

## After I have liquidated a deal, does the bot auto restart?

Yes, if you have manually initiated a deal liquidation, the bot will auto-restart and wait for the Entry Conditions to be satisfied before opening a new Deal. Please note that liquidation order is only available during standard trading hours.

## Can StockHero support a new stock?

Yes, please send us an email. We will add the new stock typically in a day or two.

## Why does my bot auto-deactivate by itself?

The most common reason why a bot deactivates automatically is due to insufficient capital or stock (for a short strategy) required to execute the trade. This usually happens if a user accidentally uses the underlying assets for his own trading purposes. Another common reason is that the user increased the bot's allocation for Extra order after the bot had executed the Base order.

#### Long Strategy

* The bot encounters insufficient USD (or the specified quote currency) required to execute a buy order.
* The bot encounters insufficient stock assets (the base currency) when trying to execute a Sell order upon the Exit Conditions being met.

#### Short Strategy

* The bot encounters insufficient stock assets to sell when the Entry Conditions are met.
* The bot encounters insufficient USD (or the specified quote currency) when trying to execute a buy-back upon the Exit Conditions being met.

Another common reason is due to an invalid API key (such as trading account getting suspended or banned or expired key). Occasionally, this can happen for unknown reasons.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you are using a **DYNAMIC** order, the bot will add previous profits to the next Deal. Hence, it may seem that you have actually allocated sufficient capital, but, in fact, the bot's internally computed capital is higher. We recommend using a **STATIC** order if you may be reallocating the profits made by the bots. It is also simpler and clearer.
{% endhint %}

## I need help. Who can I contact?

StockHero offers several ways for our users to contact us. Please take a look at the various channels below.

* [Web Form](https://www.stockhero.ai/contact)
* Email (admin \[at] stockhero \[dot] ai)
* WhatsApp. The link is available in the app.

Our StockHero team will strive to respond to your request for assistance within a day.

## I am not able to activate my bot. It just does not go to the active state. Why?

One of the most common reasons is that the capital is insufficient based on the allocated amount configured for the bot. For example, if you have allocated 1,000 USD to the bot but your actual balance on the brokerage account is 500 USD, then the bot will not start. You will need to either a) reduce the allocated balance or b) increase the balance on your brokerage account.

## I have set 1% as the Take Profit level. Why does my bot not do this?

One of the most common reasons is that the quantity previously bought by the bot (for long strategy) is insufficient for the bot to sell at. This can happen when other bots "dip" into the same pool for their deal executions. Conversely, for a short strategy, the bot encounters an insufficient amount of Quoted Currency (e.g., USD) to execute a Take Profit order (buy back the digital assets that were sold).&#x20;

## I have 100 USD available. I have set Allocated Fund to 98 USD and the Base Order to 100%. The bot made a new Deal but the total USD used for my Base Order is only 70 USD. Why?

The most common reason is because of the **Dynamic** setting. Most probably, the bot encountered a loss in the previous deal that resulted in a sales proceed of 70 USD. Hence, for the current deal, it will use only 70 USD for the trade. In addition, most strategies have risk management policies in place. They do not use 100% o the allocated fund to open new positions.&#x20;

## I tried to update my bot but encountered this error message: "Some bot settings cannot be updated while the deal is running"?

This happens when the bot has an Open Deal running and you are trying to modify the Trade Parameters. You may **only** modify the Exit Condition and click "Apply Changes to existing deal" to apply your latest changes to the bot if there is an Open Deal. If the bot has not opened any deals, you may configure any settings for the bot.

## I've manually closed a position that was opened by the bot. How do I prevent the bot from selling (again) since there are no shares now?

You need to delete the trade in the **Open Trades** page. The bot will reset and monitor for a new position.

## What is a Paper account?

The Paper account is not a real account. Its assets (such as USD) are fake and meant for you to trade on StockHero's Paper exchange. Our Paper exchange provides a risk-free venue for users to try out their bots' strategies. You can adjust the individual assets in your Paper account in order to facilitate the running of the bots on the Paper exchange.

## What is the minimum amount I can trade with StockHero?

StockHero is neither a wallet nor an investment platform. It is a **Software-as-a-Service**. It trades  using our bots, using the assets available in your brokerage account. Hence, the minimum amount that you can trade depends on the minimum requirement as determined by the brokerage. Please consult your brokerage regarding the minimum quantity of assets you can trade.&#x20;

## Do I have to click the "Enter Base Order" button in order get the bot to start trading?

No, you do not need to. After a bot has been created, it will be in a "Waiting" state. This means that the bot is continuously monitoring the market and will automatically execute the trades when its entry or exit conditions are met. However, under exceptional circumstances (for example, if you know of good news coming for a stock), you can force the bot to execute a trade.
